Stone Bridge Apartments
Eugene, Oregon
Stone Bridge is an urban infill project that increases density within the urban growth boundary. The 6.8-acre site is adjacent to I-5 near RiverBend Hospital and the Gateway Area. Designed and built to be workforce housing, there is a mix of building types and units including duplex townhouses; flats and two story walk ups in multiplexes; and a centrally located three story midrise apartment building with amenities and community spaces. Smaller duplex buildings are intentionally located along Old Coburg Road to better reflect the scale of the single family houses across the street. The midrise is placed deeper into the site and surrounded by the multiplexes to minimize its size. In this manner, the development respects its neighbors and maintains pedestrian scaled buildings along the public sidewalk.
Stone Bridge was designed to create a variety of outdoor spaces for the use and enjoyment of residents. A parklike promenade wraps the front of the midrise and meanders to a playground, allowing opportunities for community gathering, private outdoor use, passive recreation, and play. The outdoor spaces create functional places while providing separation between buildings and an appealing aesthetic. The 150 units built on this former grassland have created a new neighborhood in Northeast Eugene. A successful project that has been fully occupied since its opening.
