The Landing

The Landing is an assisted living and memory care community in Roseburg, Oregon, designed to support residents through environments that foster safety, dignity, and connection.

The project is shaped as much by its site as by its mission. Located along Newton Creek, the development required careful navigation of seasonal wetlands and multi-agency environmental oversight. A coordinated design approach allowed the wetland to remain connected beneath the site while establishing a stable, buildable landscape above—balancing ecological responsibility with the needs of the community.

The building is organized around a central connective core, where shared spaces—including dining, activity areas, and informal gathering zones—create a daily rhythm of movement and interaction. Natural materials, including exposed wood structure and stone elements, reference the surrounding region while contributing to a warm, grounded interior environment.

Residential areas are designed to support a range of cognitive and physical needs. Memory care households incorporate familiar, domestic-scaled spaces and access to secure outdoor courtyards, while assisted living units provide autonomy with proximity to shared amenities. Throughout, the layout prioritizes clarity, comfort, and ease of navigation.

By aligning site, program, and human-centered design principles, The Landing creates an environment that supports not only care, but a deeper sense of home.
