Pear Valley
Central Point, Oregon

Located in Central Point, Pear Valley is a thoughtfully planned senior living community that balances independence, safety, and a sense of home across assisted living and memory care environments. Developed in collaboration with Paradigm Properties and Compass Senior Living, the project brings together 60 assisted living units and 24 memory care residences within a cohesive campus setting.

Site constraints played a defining role in shaping the design. Requirements to maintain a strong street edge along North Haskell Street, combined with operational needs, led to a dual-building strategy: a two-story assisted living building paired with a single-story, secure memory care building. These are linked by a covered porte cochere, creating a unified identity while allowing each to function independently.

The project is organized around comfort and daily activities, promoting social connection and well-being. Clear wayfinding, controlled access, and carefully scaled residential clusters support ease of navigation and autonomy, particularly for memory care residents. Shared amenities, including dining, activity areas, and support spaces, are distributed throughout the facilities to encourage interaction while maintaining privacy.

Outdoor space is central to the campus experience. Each building is anchored by a secure courtyard designed in collaboration with the landscape architect, offering residents safe access to fresh air, movement, and seasonal change.

Architecturally, Pear Valley draws from the regional vernacular through exposed wood structure, stone, and timber-framed roof forms. A distinctive glulam column expression, composed of bundled sub-columns, creates a consistent visual language across interior and exterior spaces, shaping an environment where light, material, and rhythm come together to support comfort, dignity, and a sense of belonging.
